In my post on Green, I shared about how exciting it was for me to be able to see so vividly after having my eyesight corrected with laser surgery. It wasn’t only the leaves that I remember in that moment, it was the endless blue sky – everything seemed so in focus and much sharper against it.

How can you not look up at the sky and wonder?

“The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.”

Psalm 19:1

Take a look at this short and simple article on Why is the Sky Blue? Why is the Sky Blue? (sciencemadesimple.com). Throughout my own little review of colors in the Bible, something I continually see is the theme of separate parts working together.

“For the body does not consist of one member but of many.
If the foot should say, ‘Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,’
that would not make it any less a part of the body.

As it is, there are many parts, yet one body.”

1 Corinthians 12:14-15, 20

The first mention of blue in scripture is in Exodus 25:4 King James Bible Search blue (thekingsbible.com), along with the colors purple and scarlet. In his blog, Doulos Hal talks about the use of these colors for the priestly garments The Tabernacle of Moses – God’s Heavenly Pattern for our Spiritual Transformation – Part VI: The Priestly Garments – Bible.org Blogs. I have heard it said before that the royal purple of Jesus is a mix of the blue of heaven and the red blood of man which is similar to what Mr. Hal states. What an amazingly spiritual and colorful image!

Blue calms me and helps me to reflect on eternity. One of my favorite things to do is to be on the water and just float under a clear blue sky on a warm day. Watching the ripples in the water while I was in the pool the other day, I noticed that the light reflecting from them made it appear like a bunch of infinite infinity symbols linked together. Can you see it?

Blue also reminds me of the Israeli flag. There is a plethora of information out there and opinions as well on the meaning(s) of the flag, but this article caught my attention with its information on the dichotomy of the star – good versus evil – good overcoming evil The Meaning Behind the Israeli Flag – ONE FOR ISRAEL Ministry.

I guess the most interesting thing that I have noticed about blue is that it isn’t mentioned in the New Testament, except in the form of gems such as sapphire and amethyst. Maybe because our blue gem of heaven, Jesus, isn’t seen on earth again until His Second Coming!
